home about us cultivation & tips plants gardens & trips books & links sales guestbook contact us agaves agavaceae aloes echeverias aeoniums other plants alpines agave national collection agave nursery jardin majorelle keith and melissas kew gardens wisley books links welcome to . a site dedicated to succulents and the challenges of growing them in the uk. i am sad to have to report that paul, who was the north part to the site and the real green fingers behind especially the agaves died unexpectedly in june 2013. he will be greatly missed by his family and myself. i will continue to keep the site running, but there will be no more sales and less updates. succulents have long occupied a special place among enthusiasts. their unusual and often uniform shapes and forms inspire many people to collect and grow them. often what starts off as a hobby ends up growing into an obsession. it was no different for us. we live in two different locations in the uk with very different climates. we also have slightly different views and interests within the hobby and hope this will give a different picture of our collections of agaves, aloes, echeverias, and other succulents. the website was set up to share our experiences of growing succulents in the uk. not everything we do will be correct, like most people we are very much learning form our mistakes as much as our successes. not least when it comes to names. a 100% correctly named collection is probably the dream of every succulent enthusiast. we doubt many ever reach that dream. so if you can help correct names, or name any of our "unknown plants" you'll be helping us get one step closer. we may also offer various plants both spares and seed grown for sale and hope other enthusiasts and novices alike will give them good homes and be inspired to find and grow more. what's new: may 2012: due to unusual situation of north and south moving houses, the site is being put on hold over the summer. we have closed the sales during this time as the collections are being moved. once both collections have been installed in their respective new homes we will get back to the site again. december 2011: some more agaves including blue flame marginata, titanota mediopicta,murpheyii mediopicta, guingola striata my first agave hybid polyacanath var xapalensis x lophantha minor and a few aloes, with updates to existing plants and descriptions. august 2011: a few new agaves and more updates to photographs and descriptions. may 2011: a few new agaves including agave victoria regina medio picta, agave cubic, and agave parrasana fireball added and many descriptions updated. some new photographs and updates. march 2011: after a very bad winter in the uk with many losses, our plants are now starting to get going again. a few new arrivals are aloe camperi variegata, aloe silver ridge, agave meat claw, agave golden princess and agave blue haze. sales pages also updated for the new season. november 2010: autumn seems to have come early with a few frosts already. a few new arrivals: echeveria arlie wright and bittersweet and a few agaves: a. romanii variants, a. istmensis thunderflash, a. bovicornuta medio picta and a. gonzaloi. sales page updated; the 3 for 2 offer on agaves seems to have been popular and most have now gone. september 2010: well not such a nice mid summer, but at least the plants don't seem to have minded. lots of updates to the site, and continuing to add plants both agaves and echeverias. lots of updates on the sempervivums page. finally a new visits page to keith and melissa 's. july 2010: a lovely start to the summer and lots going on in our gardens and on the site. lots of new agaves including agave salmiana ferox blue, agave neomexicana sunspot, agave guadalajarana x filifera, agave montana baccarat, agave gypsophila lemon lime and agave victoria reginae cream edge. new plants added to the sales section, and a new section on delospernum. june 2010: a very good may with a couple visits to nice nurseries and lots of plant buying. new plants include a lovely variegated echeveria glauca 'compton carousel', lots of new agaves including an agave filifera cross, agave cantala, agave lophantha x scabra, agave victoria regina x polyacantha var xalapensis, some new manfreda x agave crosses and a couple of new dudleyas. also added more plants to the sales areas. may 2010: new additions updated sales page, euphorbia section and various flower pictures to many genera. new plants including agave gentri "jaws", agave salmiana "butterfingers", agave bracteosa x lophantha, and agave burnt burgandy, also semperviviums updated including ashes of roses, black mini, ciliosum and king george to name a few. 15 april 2010: we have added the sales section to the site, in which we list spare plants for sale. we have also been busy buying plants, some of the new plants for this upload include: echeveria big blue, echeveria coccinea x rosea, echeveria golden towers, echeveria multicaulis, echeveria pulvinata ruby and echeveria ramillete. 4 april 2010: been busy with new plants both in the gardens and on the site. new plants include: agave titanota x macroantha, manfreda gutta, echeveria easter bonnet, pachyphytum longifolia, and aloe dorean black x snow flake, aloe descoingsii var descoingsii, aloe mauii and aloe viguieri. we have also added a new section on cultivation which we hope to expand over the summer to cover the issues around growing succulents in the uk, and the tips and tricks we use. we have also added a section on alpines , which while not succulents go well with xeric planting and are often planted along side succulents in dry beds. 9 march 2010: lots going on at the moment as we sort out some of the teething problems. new sections and new plants being added all the time. recent additions to the plants include;
